Unit 4: Marketing and Research

MSBCS-BCSIII-2: The students will demonstrate effective communication skills used to succeed in the business world.
MSBCS-BCSIII-3: The students will demonstrate the ability to problem solve. 
MSBCS-BCSIII-4: The students will exhibit critical thinking.
MSBCS-BCSIII-10: The students will examine basics of marketing.

EQ: How can I research a problem associated with marketing and then present my findings in a professional manner?

Agenda for Friday, April 4, 2014:
  • This is what you need to turn in to Edmodo:
  1. Kool-Aid Spreadsheet
  2. Logo for your new product
  3. Kool-Aid Brainstorm Sheet
  • After you finish the above assignments, there is only one more part of the KOOL AID PROJECT that you need to finish. In Phase 3, it says you are supposed to create a magazine ad or billboard advertising your new flavor of Kool-Aid.  This will be presented to the class also. Please turn in whatever you create to Edmodo as well. You can create this in Microsoft Publisher, Word, or 1 slide in PowerPoint.
Agenda for Thursday, April 3, 2014:
  • Today, we are doing a taste test for your NEW drinks! 
  • If you brought your products, please bring them to the tables in the back. 
  • After we finish the taste test, you can continue with your work.

Agenda for Wednesday, April 2, 2014:
  • Continue with the KOOL AID PROJECT
  • Turn your spreadsheet in to Edmodo when you finish it.
  • Once you turn in your spreadsheet, please complete this brainstorming sheet:

  • Tomorrow, your group needs to bring the supplies to make your product. We will have a taste test during class.

  • Please work diligently to finish your Excel Spreadsheet today! Formatting requirements are listed in the agenda for yesterday. Please turn this in to Edmodo when you are finished. Remember: If yours doesn't look similar to this example, you WILL have points taken off!

Agenda for Monday, March 31, 2014:
  • Continue with the KOOL AID PROJECT
  • Remember: You are trying to come up with a TOTALLY different drink than what has been offered before and so you need to do the research to figure out what your target market wants. I will show you how to set up your Excel table today in class so that when you have your research gathered, you can enter it in quickly.
  • ALL RESEARCH SURVEYS NEED TO BE COMPLETED BY PEOPLE IN YOUR TARGET MARKET BY TODAY.
  • Please apply the following formatting options to your Excel Spreadsheet before turning it in:
  1. Merge/Center Cells in Top Row to make a Title for the Spreadsheet
  2. Expand Column Width for columns containing data if needed
  3. Skip a row between questions
  4. Wrap Text on all cells containing data
  5. Change the font & font size of some of the data entered (EX: Titles)
  6. Apply Borders to all cells containing data
  7. Center Align all cells containing data
  8. Bold all results (numbers only)
  9. Color Code results by question (Change Fill Color of Cells)
  10. Chart Results for each question and set as a new tab
  11. Change Colors of all data in your charts
  12. Delete any blank sheets in your spreadsheet
  13. Name all tabs according to results
  • Turn in your Excel Spreadsheet with your data to Edmodo. Here is an example of how to set up your data in Excel (This one is NOT all the way finished...):

MSBCS-BCSIII-1: Students will reinforce keyboarding techniques.

Essential Questions: Why is it important for you to learn how to type? How is this going to help you in the real world?

Agenda for Wednesday, March 26, 2014:
  • Today, you will continue with the beginner courses in the typing program.
  • IF you think you could get a 100 (30 NET wpm) without completing the remaining courses, you may TEST OUT TODAY! You must make a 100 in order to test out. You may take the test as many times as you need in order to get the desired score.
  • After testing out, you may compete against your peers by creating an account in NitroType. See Mrs. Jones to set up a race!
  • Those people who do not test out today will continue have to continue with the typing program and the other students will not.

  • 8th Grade Field Trip to UNG
Agenda for Thursday, March 20, 2014:
  • Continue with the beginner courses in the typing program.
  • In order to test out, you must do the following:
  1. Complete ALL beginner courses
  2. Complete the first two intermediate courses (You may complete more if you want)
  3. Take another typing test - Here is how the test will be scored - 
    (Gross Speed - Errors = Net Speed):
  • 100 = 30 NET wpm
  • 95 = 25-29 NET wpm
  • 90 = 23-24 NET wpm
  • 85 = 21-22 NET wpm
  • 80 = 19-20 NET wpm
  • 75 = 17-18 NET wpm
  • 70 = 15-16 NET wpm
  • 65 = 13-14 NET wpm
  • 60 = <13 NET wpm
***IF YOU GET FINISHED BEFORE OTHERS***
You can race ME or other class members in NitroType!

Agenda for Tuesday, March 18, 2014:
  • Please log in to your Edmodo account and take the "So You Think You Know Basic Technology?!?" Quiz. This will count as a formative.
  • Typing Test - Mrs. Jones will explain how to do this! Just come and see me before you take this. This is just a pre-test and will not count this time.
  • Work on finishing all beginner courses of the typing program. 
  • You should be finished with this by Friday at the latest. 
  • You can take another typing test after every lesson is finished to see what kind of progress you have made.
  • You will take a typing test that WILL count after you have completed all beginner courses.
